I used to watch Lesley Ann Warren play the role of Cinderella when I was 5, 6, 7, and 8 and ardently wish that I had a fairy godmother, like Cinderella did. I’d feel saddened by the end that all her wishes came true and I couldn’t figure out how to make my own come true. I felt disadvantaged. Since then, I’ve come to realize that each one of us has the equivalent of a fairy godmother – and it’s referred to as our Higher Self. As I conceive of it, we are spiritual beings having a human experience. We are multidimensional yet perceiving ourselves and our predicaments as if we were merely three-dimensional, limited to this physical world. When in fact, we are made of stardust, bits of light and energy that knows no bounds. We are consciousness learning through the constraints of time and space to free ourselves from our limited perspective and rejoin our awareness with the Oneness that is Source energy. Some refer to Source as God, Goddess, Universal Consciousness, the Matrix, Cosmic Intelligence, the Universe, the Multiverse, etc.
Life is made up of energy, which is light and sound in fluid motion. Everything has a frequency. In fact, even solid-appearing objects are made up of photons and electrons that bleep in and out of our field of perception. Such a divine mystery!
Our higher self is simply an expanded set of frequencies/consciousness we can each access through focus, request, inward listening, meditation, prayer, automatic writing or just plain talking or singing. Our higher self is integral to our physical being, but is also in communion with our Soul, which is a refraction of Source energy. We can ignore it or enlist it. But the power to access it lies within each one of us. And it is always listening and connected, even when we are unaware. Just like our subconscious mind is always listening to our thoughts, feelings and beliefs. So when we experience something we don’t like, it’s normal to place blame and feel as though some force outside ourselves is messing with us, or worse yet, punishing us.
However, if we could realize that our current situation arose out of the vibrations of our past thoughts, reactions, judgments, and decisions, we would tend to step out of the victim triangle and into the conscious creator paradigm, where we realize and act as if we are all sovereign creators, who are perfect reflections of Source – the ultimate creative impulse within Life. We could bypass all the self recrimination and struggle against what is and begin to harness the potential to create what we desire and need more easily. However, it is a challenge to remember to shift our focus from what we don’t like to what we desire instead – the nourishing opposite of what’s currently troubling us.
So the next time you find yourself at odds with What Is try asking yourself this series of inquiries and reflect upon them:
- What is happening?
- How am I feeling about it?
- What do I need to move through this in the most masterful way?
- What do I want/need?
Then, bravely enlist your Higher Self in the resolution of your challenge, remembering we all grow through hardship. As Kahlil Gibran said, “Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.”
You could say or write something like this: “I command my Higher Self to step in and help me find the best and highest outcome for all concerned with grace and ease.” Then listen inwardly for the next impulses to arise – rather than go flailing about in frantic action, wait until you feel the nudge inwardly. While you are waiting, breathe, relax, allow, observe with curiosity and eager anticipation. This is where practicing faith and trust come in handy. Trust that you have full access to all the creative goo in the multiverse and you are divine. Faith results from taking informed action – following the inner promptings of your heart’s intelligence.
The steps for creating what we want are thus:
A. Identify what you don’t like. . .
B. Use this awareness to generate a clear picture of what you DO want.
C. Focus upon all the nitty gritty of what you desire – the qualities, feelings, images and any sensory experience connected with having it – as if it’s already here.
D. Request assistance – from your Higher Self, angels, guides, spiritual mentors, friends, family, nature, God, etc.
E. Trust your request was heard and you needn’t keep repeating it louder and louder.
F. Wait in a receptive mode – to receive an inner urge, impulse or spark of spiritual intelligence to guide your next action. This is one of the hardest parts
G. Take action, with faith that you are on the right path to discovering your lovely resolution.
H. Let go of the fear-based thoughts and limiting beliefs that will keep popping up like annoying ads on your social media.
I. Realign your focus with what you do want, knowing your joy matters.
J. Give over the burden of concern to the Unseen Helpers, the Unknown, your Higher Self, etc, in a spirit of trust. Imagine what life would be like if you could assume that EVERYTHING that happens is guiding you to greater bliss, healing and expansion – even or especially when it’s uncomfortable?
K. Appreciate all the goodness you can experience in this moment. Look for opportunities to give to others – a smile, warm handshake, genuine compliment, unexpected gift or act of kindness, etc. Keep the good energy flowing and focus on what feels good, now.
